About Scottish and Southern Energy Networks
SSEN’s electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.7 million homes and businesses across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England.
Our skilled teams are based right across the regions we serve, from the bustle of West London to the smallest villages in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
SSEN is delivering a smarter, flexible and cost-effective network that unlocks opportunities for low-carbon technologies. In 2015, SSEN led the way in announcing the first Constraint Managed Zones (CMZs) to support and unlock network flexibility in areas of constraint. These zones make use of technologies providing flexibility to alleviate network constraints, deploying them as an alternative to traditional network reinforcement in the management of peak demand.
Flexibility services will play a big part in avoiding the need for expensive reinforcement to accommodate the growth in low carbon technologies, helping to keep costs down for SSEN customers.
